Is it valid to just exist?
To ‘be’ and not do and still be enough?
Everything else in creation seems to understand that their value and place on the earth is not earned but given.
The clouds simply glide through the sky, their act of being is enough to garner the gaze of many, and inspire the art of thousands over centuries.
The trees they stand, day after day, no striving or performance, just a solid, confident standing knowing their place on the earth, no competition or comparison. Just standing, and standing proud.
Sometimes nature is busy and full, moving and changing, other times it is still and serene almost unchanging to the beholder.
But always it is confident and at peace, knowing its purpose is ‘to be’ and that being is enough.
Lord may my heart be steady like the trees, at ease within itself, confident about my place.
May my movement through the world be restful like the clouds, gliding in harmony with the season, resting in the wind of your spirit. Not rushing to be somewhere or become someone, but confident in the speed in which you are moving me.
May nature’s lessons to me be one that makes me more like you Jesus; less taken by the opinions of man and more given to the will of God.
Thank you Lord for making it so that no matter how busy we are, all we have to do is look up and we are invited into a different rhythm of life.
The rhythm of creation. The rhythm of being.
We have enjoyed the change in weather recently, but there is always this tension in me when the weather gets nicer. A tension that I should be doing more, that I should be more productive, more active, just more…
Today I caught myself making plans to do more, and I stopped and instead looked at the sky, took a deep breath, and invited the Holy Spirit to come and be my pace maker.
I don’t ever want to get caught up in doing more for God, and miss out on the deep privilege that I have to ‘be’ more with God.
I am thankful for the lessons that nature has to teach us about existing. Thankful that every moment is a moment in which I can learn to ‘be’ more, and do less.
Until next time,
Love, Anna x
